The Manuel Ballbé Chair closes the academic year with a conference on energy

The Manuel Ballbé Chair in Human Security and Global Law held the closing event of the 2025–2026 academic year on May 20, with an almost full Aula Magna. The event, opened by Rector Javier Lafuente Sancho and Director Roser Martínez Quirante, featured a lecture by Santiago Martínez Garrido, Secretary General of Iberdrola.
Under the title Energy in Dispute: Regulation as a Shield, the speaker analyzed the main regulatory challenges facing the energy sector in a context marked by geopolitical tensions, technological dependence, and the digitalization of critical infrastructures. The role of regulation in protecting essential services and Human Security was also highlighted.
Attendees rated the event very positively, especially due to the rigor and relevance of the issues discussed. With this closing session, the Chair reaffirms its role as a space for reflection on Global Law, risk governance, and Human Security in highly technological societies.
