Published: New issue (No. 4, 2025) of the Journal of Human Security and Global Law


The fourth issue of the Journal of Human Security and Global Law is now available. This open-access academic journal is promoted by the Manuel Ballbé Chair and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The new issue brings together contributions that analyse some of the main contemporary challenges in the fields of human security and global law from a legal and interdisciplinary perspective.

The new volume includes three research articles and one note, focusing on topics such as the protection of vulnerable groups, the legal regulation of activities related to security, the role of private security at a global scale, and the adaptation of emergency services to new social and operational realities.

The invisible dog: structural causes behind the lack of regulation of working canine units

This paper examines the structural reasons explaining the absence of specific legal regulation for working canine units and the implications this has in terms of security, rights, and legal protection.


Global private security: threat or opportunity?

Alicia Gómez de Hinojosa Guerrero

The article offers a critical analysis of the role of private security in a globalised context, assessing the risks and opportunities posed by its expansion for human security and the international legal order.

Preparing emergency services for new realities

David Martínez Luján

The note reflects on the need to adapt emergency services to new social, technological, and environmental scenarios, highlighting current challenges and possible lines of action.
