On March 4, José Martín López Guillén defended his doctoral thesis entitled “Analysis of Citizen Participation as a Tool for Local Risk Management in the municipalities of Ingenio and Agüimes” in the Graduation Hall of the Faculty of Law at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, within the framework of the PhD Program in Human Security and Global Law.
The thesis was supervised by Dr. José Enrique Hernández Rodríguez and Dr. Roser Martínez Quirante, and examines the role of citizen participation as a key instrument for strengthening risk management at the local level, analyzing the cases of the municipalities of Ingenio and Agüimes.
The evaluation committee was composed of Lela Janashvilli, President of the Data Protection Authority of Georgia and Associate Professor at the UAB; José Julián Isturitz, former Director General of Heritage and Public Procurement of the Government of the Canary Islands and expert in security and emergency management; and Juan Pablo Fernández Pereira, professor at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
