The Manuel Ballbé Chair at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) continues its work analyzing and preventing risks affecting human security in the 21st century. On this occasion, we echo the recent intervention by our Director, Dr. Roser Martínez Quirante , at the 18th Course on Current Scientific and Cultural Affairs at the University of León, dedicated to "Global Challenges."
On October 21, Dr. Martínez Quirante, an expert in the ethics of artificial intelligence and professor of Administrative Law at the UAB, opened this series with the lecture "Autonomous Lethal Weaponry," where she warned about the dangers associated with weapon autonomy and its potential to make decisions outside of human control.
This intervention is part of the Manuel Ballbé Chair's ongoing commitment to the study and prevention of emerging risks to human security, in line with Dr. Manuel Ballbé's legacy and his contribution to global regulation aimed at ensuring Human Security.
From the Manuel Ballbé Chair we support efforts to establish international regulatory frameworks that prohibit or significantly restrict the development and use of lethal autonomous weapons, in line with the Stop Killer Robots campaign of which Dr. Martínez Quirante is an active advocate.
